In deze uitgave van Mozarts klassieker ligt de nadruk uitsluitend op de personages: hun relaties; hun stiekeme
capriolen; hoe ze elkaar voor de gek houden om vervolgens zelf voor de gek gehouden te worden;
verstoppertje; geheime rendez-vous en vermomming. Niets is wat het lijkt…
De kleurrijke personages komen tot leven in dit stripachtige toneel, dat van ASTA Theater Beek, een primeur
voor Conservatorium Maastricht.

Aanvang 19.30 uur

Deze productie dient als tweedejaars Master examen van de studenten Mona Beyersdorf, Neele Jacobsen en

Eline Meijs.
ACT I
Figaro en Susanna, de bedienden van graaf Almaviva, bereiden zich voor op hun aanstaande huwelijk, als
Susanna onthult dat ze door de graaf wordt achtervolgd.
Ondertussen proberen Bartolo en Marcellina Figaro te houden aan een belofte, die hij heeft gedaan om met
Marcellina te trouwen als hij een lening aan Bartolo niet terugbetaalt.
De page Cherubino vertelt Susanna over zijn liefde voor de gravin, net als de graaf arriveert.
Cherubino verstopt zich en hoort Almaviva's poging om Susanna te verleiden. De komst van Don Basilio dwingt
de graaf om zich ook te verbergen, wat Cherubino op zijn beurt dwingt om zijn schuilplaats te verlaten.
De indiscrete Basilio spreekt over de liefde van de graaf voor Susanna en over Cherubino's liefde voor de
gravin. Dan duikt de graaf op uit zijn schuilplaats, wat leidt tot een scène die eindigt met Cherubino die door
de graaf wordt weggevoerd om hem bij het leger aan te sluiten.
ACT II
De gravin, verontrust door het geflirt van haar man, beraamt een plan met Susanna om hem te vernederen:
Susanna zal de graaf schrijven en instemmen met een rendez-vous, maar ze zullen Cherubino in haar plaats
sturen, gekleed in vrouwenkleren. Terwijl Cherubino wordt vermomd, arriveert de graaf, en Cherubino wordt
in een kast geduwd.
De graaf, die geluiden hoort, gaat weg om gereedschap te halen waarmee hij de deur kan openbreken.
Ondertussen springt Cherubino uit het raam, terwijl Susanna zijn plaats inneemt.
Dan komt de graaf terug en ontdekt hij dat het Susanna is…
Tot overmaat van ramp arriveert Figaro, dan een boze tuinman (Cherubino's sprong heeft enkele planten
vernield), en tenslotte Bartolo met Marcellina, die wil dat haar claim op Figaro wordt gehonoreerd.

ACT III

Figaro vertraagt Marcellina door haar te vertellen dat hij van adel is en niet kan trouwen zonder toestemming
van zijn ouders. Hij onthult een moedervlek op zijn arm, waarop Marcellina zich realiseert dat zij en Bartolo
hun lang verloren zoon hebben gevonden. Ze omhelzen elkaar net als Susanne binnenkomt. Ze is woedend,
maar zodra de situatie is uitgelegd doet ze mee met de viering.
Nadat de gravin een briefje heeft gedicteerd dat Susanna aan de graaf moet geven, wordt een dubbele bruiloft
voorbereid – Susanna en Figaro worden vergezeld door Marcellina en Bartolo.
ACT IV
Figaro ontmoet Barbarina, de dochter van de tuinman, die per ongeluk onthult dat Susanna een bericht van de
graaf heeft ontvangen. Figaro veronderstelt het ergste en besluit zijn dolende vrouw te betrappen wanneer zij
aankomt voor haar afspraak in de tuin.
De gravin en Susanna verschijnen in elkaars kleren (Susanne heeft nu Cherubino's plaats ingenomen) en er
ontstaan veel persoonsverwisseling in de duisternis (Cherubino is er ook om Barbarina te ontmoeten).
Uiteindelijk beseft Figaro dat zijn vrouw trouw is en de graaf dat hij is beetgenomen. Hij smeekt zijn vrouw om
vergiffenis en krijgt die ook.

The colourful characters come to life in this cartoon-style stage, that of ASTA Theater Beek, a first for Conservatorium Maastricht.
This production serves as the Master 2 exams of students Mona Beyersdorf and Neele Jacobsen.

About the Opera

A count tries to prevent the marriage of his employee because he fancies the fiancée, but the fiancée bonds with the countess and lets him fall into his own trap.
Who is fooling who in this witty, sparkling comedy? Seemingly outdated, yet truly timeless? Who catches and who gets caught?
Come and watch our students take on this acting and singing challenge!   

ACT I
Figaro and Susanna, Count Almaviva’s servants, are preparing for their imminent wedding, when Susanna reveals that she is being pursued by the count.
Meanwhile Bartolo and Marcellina are trying to hold Figaro to a promise he made to marry Marcellina if he failed to pay back a loan to Bartolo.
The page Cherubino tells Susanna of his love for the countess, just as the count arrives.
Cherubino hides and overhears Almaviva’s attempted seduction of Susanna. Don Basilio’s arrival forces the count into hiding as well, which, in turn, forces Cherubino to move from his hiding place.
The indiscreet Basilio talks of the count’s love for Susanna and of Cherubino’s love for the countess. The count then emerges from hiding, precipitating a scene that ends with Cherubino being packed off by the count to join the army.

ACT II
The countess, distressed by her husband’s philandering, plots with Susanna to humiliate him: Susanna will write to the count, agreeing to a rendezvous, but they will send Cherubino in her place, dressed in women’s clothes. As Cherubino is being disguised, the count arrives, and Cherubino is pushed into an adjoining closet.
The count, hearing noises, leaves to fetch tools with which to break open the door. In the meantime Cherubino leaps out of the window while Susanna takes his place.
When the count returns and finds that it is Susanna
in the closet, he is forced to apologize for his suspicions.To add to the confusion Figaro then arrives, then an irate gardener (Cherubino’s leap has destroyed some plants), and finally Bartolo with Marcellina, who wants her claim on Figaro honoured.

ACT III
Figaro stalls Marcellina by telling her that he is of noble birth and cannot marry without his parents’ consent. He reveals a birthmark on his arm, whereupon Marcellina realizes that she and Bartolo have found their long-lost son. They embrace just as Susanne enters. She is furious, but once the situation is explained she joins in the celebration.
After the countess has dictated the note that Susanna is to pass to the Count, a double wedding is prepared – Susanna and Figaro being joined by Marcellina and Bartolo.

ACT IV
Figaro encounters Barbarina, the gardener’s daughter, who inadvertently reveals that Susanna has received a message from the count. Figaro assumes the worst, and decides to catch his errant wife when she arrives for her tryst in the garden.
The countess and Susanna appear in each other’s clothes (Susanne has now taken Cherubino’s place in the subterfuge) and much mistaken identity ensues in the darkness (Cherubino is there to meet Barbarina too).
Eventually Figaro realizes his wife is faithful and the count realizes he has been tricked. He begs for his wife’s forgiveness, and receives it.
